Let me try to explain Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) with this example
A person saw a sinking people in the sea. He went there along with his boat to save them. There he asked them to mention their caste and he picked only those who belong to some caste and left others there only with the hope of others will save them.
This simple story holds good to explain CAB.
But being a secular country we want to save every individual irrespective of their caste, who were in need of help.
The Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB), seeks to amend the definition of an illegal immigrant for Hindu, Sikh, Parsi, Buddhist and Christian immigrants from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh, who have lived in India without documentation.
Dear readers CAB 2019 is all set to become law were, immigrants from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh, who have lived in India without documentation. They will be granted fast-track Indian citizenship in six years. So far, 12 years of residence has been the standard eligibility requirement for naturalization.
What’s the issue in it then?
In this bill, they have mentioned religion. Here in this bill “illegal immigrants for Hindu, Sikh, Parsi, Buddhist and Christian” and Muslims have left apart.
The opposition says being a secular nation, this Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) discriminates against Muslims and violates the right to equality enshrined in the Constitution. Here’s a primer on why some believe it questions the idea of India.
Who will get benefited?
The legislation applies to those who were “forced or compelled to seek shelter in India due to persecution on the ground of religion”. It aims to protect such people from proceedings of illegal migration. The cut-off date for citizenship is December 31, 2014, which means the applicant should have entered India on or before that date.
Is it the same as Partition?
During the times of partition, only the Muslim League and Hindu rights have advocated for the theory of two-nation based on religion. All the founders of nation Gandhi, Vallabahi Patel, Subhash Chandra bose and every other leader committed for a secular state. All citizens with irrespective of religion got full citizenship. Here in this Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) Afghanistan also included, which was not a part of the times of partition.
What is the situation of minorities in the world?
let’s understand the reality of the world.
There are two types of societies, secular and non-secular countries.
While making CAB it’s observed that, these minority groups have come escaping persecution in Muslim-majority nations.
If this is the logic, then the bill does not protect all religious minorities, nor does it apply to all neighbors.
Ahmedia and Shias Muslim face discrimination in Pakistan.
Rohingya Muslims and Hindus face persecution in neighboring Burma
Hindu and Christian Tamils in neighboring Sri Lanka.
What opposition wants to clarify?
The CAB blocking Muslim caste by declaring India a welcome refuge to all other religious communities.
It seeks to legally establish Muslims as second-class citizens of India by providing preferential treatment to other groups.
This violates the Constitution’s Article 14, the fundamental right to equality to all persons.
This basic structure of the Constitution cannot be reshaped by any Parliament.
How this will affect Indians?
Presently India’s situation has worsened with many factors.
Presently the Indian Economy not stable. GDP slowdown affecting every sector and every financial decision is showing any improvement. In this situation we want our political leaders to discuss and address this issue and not wasting their valuable time in these kinds of matters. https://economicdictator.com/2019/12/will-india-recover-from-its-declining-gdp-growth-slowdown-from-4-5-in-q2-factors-measures-and-discussion/
The unemployment rate is skyrocketing high. Youths are unable to find jobs to meet their day-to-day expenditure. If dump even more population with Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) it will further worsen this situation.
Education and health
Education and health are another major issue needs to tackle. We want all the necessary improvements to this issue. Government of India not able to pass all the necessary subsidies required for this sector. First of all, we want to improve our standard of living and not thinking to improve somebody.
Our government even after 60 years of independence still not able to resolve poverty and food-related issues. If we bring more population inflow in the country it will further destroy the livelihood security of the poorest among the poor. https://economicdictator.com/2019/11/how-we-can-recover-from-extreme-poverty/
National security: When soldiers scarifying their lives to save us and security agencies like RAW also mentioned that it is an easy way for enemies to enter with illegal immigration.
Studies have shown that how religion biased countries were showing the least economic growth. There every other day fights happen in the name of religion. We don’t want a situation to occur in our country.
We can observe many developed countries like European countries, Singapore where secularism is the key.
We Indians don’t have to get distracted with such discussions which will affect our social morals. Keep your focus on the basic issues like Employment, Food, Health, Education, Economy and Trade etc. This is just a political strategy to distract and increase vote bank
